China removed senior military officers Zhang Youxia and Liu Zhenli from the Central Military Commission on August 28, 2026, following investigations into discipline and law violations.
The purge also stripped Zhao Zongqi, former commander of the Western Theatre Command responsible for the 2020 Galwan Valley clash, of his political advisory membership.
This crackdown, part of President Xi Jinping's 2012 anti-graft campaign, has resulted in the removal of 12 lawmakers and follows a recent 10-year prison sentence for former defence official Zhang Jianhua.
