
At least nine people died after a section of the four-storey Kohinoor Building collapsed in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra, late on July 30, 2026, during ongoing repair work.
The structure, which contained 48 rooms, had been declared unfit for occupation by the Bhiwandi-Nizampur Municipal Corporation prior to the incident that occurred between 11:00 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an ex gratia relief of ₹2 lakh for the next of kin of the deceased and ₹50,000 for the injured as rescue operations continue for trapped survivors.
