AI Giants Adopt Policy Token Standard For Publisher Opt-Outs

OpenAI, Google, Microsoft, and Anthropic are looking to adopt a new policy token standard allowing publishers to collectively opt out of AI training.

Proposed by Anthropic technical lead Kevin Kelley via the IETF, the shared signal is placed in a website robots.txt file.

Anthropic has already adopted the signal, while OpenAI will implement it in coming months and Google and Microsoft plan support next year.
