Google Pulls AI Satellite Imagery Feature After 24 Hours

Google disabled its generative AI feature for Google Earth on July 31, 2026, less than 24 hours after launch, due to the rapid creation of high-fidelity misinformation.

Users exploited the tool to generate fabricated images of disasters, including a fake explosion in Paris and a flooded U.S. Capitol, bypassing safety guardrails.

The company stated it is rolling back the feature to implement stronger protections after acknowledging that the tool violated policies and undermined trust in satellite imagery.
