Congress criticizes Centre for opening Census enumerator roles to private individuals

AICC General Secretary Jairam Ramesh alleged that the Union government's decision to authorize private schoolteachers and trust members as Census enumerators is an employment scheme for RSS and BJP members.

The Population Enumeration phase will run across India in February 2027, with door-to-door enumeration starting between December 1 and January 4, 2027, in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, and Goa.

Former Deputy Registrar General K. Narayanan Unni stated that government school growth has failed to match population increases, triggering the need to engage private teachers.
