The US House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed the bipartisan Ratepayer Protection Act in a 417-3 vote to protect residential electricity consumers from data center infrastructure costs.
The legislation requires states to implement federal standards ensuring that data centers consuming 100 megawatts or more cover the full cost of dedicated electrical upgrades.
The proposal now moves to the Senate, where its legislative future remains uncertain ahead of the upcoming midterm elections.
