US President Donald Trump announced a three-day pause on imposing new 50% tariffs on Canadian imports, stating that both nations have reached a trade deal subject to finalising documents.
The delay was announced on Tuesday night, less than two hours before the 50% levy on nearly $20 billion of Canadian goods was scheduled to take effect on August 19.
The proposed trade agreement could revive the Keystone XL pipeline project, which is designed to carry 830,000 barrels of oil per day from Alberta to the United States.
