The first clinical trial of an Ebola vaccine in the Democratic Republic of Congo is scheduled to begin by the end of October 2026, according to World Health Organization experts.
The Ervebo vaccine, approved for the Zaire strain, will undergo a full-scale human trial to evaluate cross-protection against the Bundibugyo strain amid an outbreak exceeding 9,000 cases and 4,000 deaths.
The Tumaini single trial framework will also incorporate two Bundibugyo-specific candidate vaccines being developed by the University of Oxford and Moderna.
