Federal prosecutors have moved to charge former FBI Director James Comey with leaking national defence information to the New York Times in October 2016, marking the third time the Justice Department has sought to prosecute him.
Comey denied wrongdoing in a Substack video, calling the move an appalling abuse, while his legal team filed a motion to dismiss the charges based on a 10-year statute of limitations.
The latest charges emerged on the same day a federal judge ruled that the Trump administration illegally fired Comey's daughter, Maurene Comey, ordering her reinstatement and back pay.
