THE BRIEF
1

Researchers presented data at the European Society of Cardiology Congress on August 29, 2026, linking high blood levels of xylitol to an increased risk of heart attack, stroke, and cardiovascular death.

2

The study of 17,710 participants found a 57% higher risk of major adverse cardiovascular events in the Canadian cohort over six years and an 18% higher risk in the EPIC-Norfolk cohort over 30 years.

3

Dr. P R L N Prasad of Gleneagles BGS Hospital advised caution for regular users, particularly those with diabetes, noting that while the link is substantial, the observational data requires further follow-up research.
