Iran’s Revolutionary Guards claimed on Tuesday to have captured an advanced, unmanned US submarine at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz during a complex intelligence operation.
The Strait of Hormuz has been under an Iranian blockade since late February, impacting a route that typically handles approximately 20% of global oil and liquefied natural gas exports.
Tehran plans to release photographic and video evidence of the captured asset, which was reportedly designed for tasks including seabed mapping, mine detection, and inspection of submarine cables and pipelines.
