Dean Elgar to Retire From Professional Cricket

Former South Africa Test captain Dean Elgar will retire from professional cricket at the end of the 2026 season, concluding a 21-year career that included 86 Test match appearances.

The 39-year-old batter scored 5,347 Test runs at an average of 37.65, featuring 14 centuries and 23 fifties, while leading South Africa to second place in the World Rankings.

Elgar, who joined Essex in 2024, stated he plans to take a sabbatical to focus on his family after playing more than 500 professional matches across his two-decade career.
