
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport in Vizianagaram district on August 1, 2026, alongside launching state-wide development projects worth over ₹17,900 crore.
The new greenfield airport, built for ₹5,640 crore by GMR Visakhapatnam International Airport Limited, is designed to handle six million passengers annually in its first phase.
Commercial flight operations at the new facility are scheduled to commence on August 17, 2026, coinciding with the cessation of civil operations at the existing Visakhapatnam airport.
