7.4 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Colombia, Killing at Least 69 People

A 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia on August 10, 2026, at 7:34 a.m. local time, causing widespread building collapses and killing at least 69 people across multiple regions.

The epicenter was located 100 km deep in the San Jose del Palmar municipality, with 40 deaths reported in Risaralda, 27 in Valle del Cauca, and two in Manizales.

President Abelardo de la Espriella, sworn in on August 7, 2026, has convened an emergency meeting as six airports suspended operations and international leaders offered disaster assistance.
