Kerala Antimicrobial Resistance Report Highlights High Drug Resistance

Data released by the Kerala Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance Network shows drug-resistant bacteria are widespread across hospitals and communities in the State.

The 2025 report analyzed 65,849 unique-patient isolates, noting high rates of ESBL-producing and Carbapenem-resistant E. coli and Klebsiella species in blood samples.

While older antibiotic colistin remains largely effective at an overall resistance profile of 0.1%, experts warn that resistance is slowly emerging.
