Directed by Antoine Fuqua and starring Jaafar Jackson, the film will instead compete in the drama race, facing potential contenders like Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey'.
The ruling does not affect supporting acting categories, allowing Colman Domingo and Nia Long to continue their awards campaigns for playing the singer's parents.
