The Pacific island nation of Nauru has officially changed its name to Naoero to better reflect its traditional indigenous identity.
As the world's third-smallest country, the government stated the change is a symbolic move to reclaim cultural heritage after decades of colonial naming.
The transition will be reflected in all official government documents and international communications effective immediately.
