India Condemns Maritime Attacks in Strait of Hormuz at UNSC

India condemned recent attacks on maritime vessels in the Strait of Hormuz at a UN Security Council debate on July 28, 2026, calling for immediate de-escalation of regional tensions.

Permanent Representative Parvathaneni Harish confirmed that Indian citizens were among the casualties, with one death and one person missing following attacks on vessels including GFS Galaxy, MT Al Bahiyah, and MT Mombasa.

India highlighted its high stakes in the region, citing 180 billion dollars in annual trade and 52 billion dollars in remittances, while urging a return to diplomacy to ensure safe navigation.
