Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, 78, announced her intention to return to Bangladesh from India, declaring she is prepared to face potential arrest or death to support her followers.
Hasina was sentenced to death by Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal in November for ordering the killing of over 1,400 people during the 2024 uprising that ended her 15-year rule.
The announcement has sparked protests in Dhaka, where demonstrators burned her effigy, while the government of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman continues to demand her extradition from New Delhi.
