Sankoo Carved Out Of Kargil As Ladakh Becomes 8th District

Ladakh got its eighth district on Friday as Sankoo was carved out of Kargil, fulfilling a long-standing demand from local organisations and political representatives.

Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena announced the decision during a visit to Sankoo, which will serve as headquarters and comprise the tehsils of Sankoo, GM Pore, TSG and Taisuru.

The administration also notified the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council for Sankoo, though elections to the new separate hill council will be held later.
