Miami-Dade County Public Schools recorded 215,078 enrolled students on the first day of the 2026-2027 academic year, a decrease from the 230,172 enrolled the previous year.
District officials attributed the decline to lower birth rates, shifting migration patterns, and the region's high cost of living, with enrollment falling 5,333 below initial projections.
Neighboring Broward County also reported a 5.6 percent decrease in student enrollment compared to the start of the 2025 academic year, continuing a multi-year downward trend.
