US President Donald Trump presented Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella with the National Medal of Technology and Innovation at the White House.
The award ceremony occurred hours after Vice President JD Vance announced the suspension of green card sponsorships for Microsoft and other major IT firms.
Microsoft stated that 80% of its roughly 6,000 H-1B visa applications last year were extensions for existing employees rather than new hires.
