Students and parents face financial losses as private universities frequently refuse to issue fee refunds following admission cancellations.
Data from the University Grants Commission's Fee Nivaran Cell showed it resolved 4,257 complaints across five academic years, resulting in student refunds totaling over ₹25.51 crore.
Under statutory UGC guidelines for the 2026 academic cycle, institutions must issue a full fee refund minus a maximum processing fee of ₹1,000 for cancellations made up to October 31.
