Thousands of dollars in new school supplies, including textbooks and beakers, were discarded in dumpsters at Carlos Fuentes Elementary School in Avondale.
Chicago Public Schools (CPS) stated the disposal occurred while clearing legacy materials from the former Acero charter school, claiming some items did not meet district standards.
Local residents and daycare operators salvaged some items, though severe weekend weather ruined many of the books before they could be recovered for community use.
