
India observes National Engineers' Day on September 15 to mark the birth anniversary of Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, who served as Diwan of Mysore from 1912 to 1918.
Visvesvaraya contributed to flood management, irrigation, and infrastructure projects, including designing reservoirs like Osman Sagar and constructing the Krishna Raja Sagara Dam.
India produces around 1.5 million engineering graduates annually and maintains technical institutions including 23 IITs, 31 NITs, and 26 IIITs as of 2026.
