An international panel of experts has published a second universal definition of heart failure in the Circulation journal to improve diagnostic accuracy for the 64 million people affected globally.
The new framework replaces strict Left Ventricular Ejection Fraction thresholds with four clinically actionable stages, ranging from Stage A for at-risk patients to Stage D for advanced heart failure.
The updated guidelines aim to standardize the identification of underlying causes like genetic or metabolic factors, moving away from broad categories to ensure patients receive targeted therapies for their specific condition.
