The execution of 50-year-old Christa Pike in Tennessee was halted on September 30, 2026, after witnesses and her attorney reported she was still breathing and snoring.
Pike was treated at a nearby hospital on October 1 after authorities failed to carry out the lawful execution cleared hours earlier by the U.S. Supreme Court.
Seven media witnesses stated that Pike was singing, moving, complaining of arm pain, and audibly breathing for nearly an hour before corrections officials cleared the room.
