Congress leaders urged the Maharashtra government to declare Latur district drought-hit following inadequate rainfall and extensive damage to kharif crops from a prolonged dry spell.
During a review meeting, MP Shivaji Kalge and former minister Amit Deshmukh called for immediate financial assistance, accurate crop loss assessments, and loan waiver extensions.
Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule noted that a drought-like situation has developed across 18 districts, affecting nearly half of the state's farmers.
