The government has notified a Rs 62,500-crore Mobile Phone Manufacturing Scheme to boost production to Rs 39 lakh crore over five years ending in 2031.
The policy offers incentives of up to 5% for Indian-owned brands and 2.75% for large manufacturers to encourage domestic design, R&D, and component sourcing.
Officials aim to double mobile exports to Rs 15 lakh crore and expect the first strong, Indian-owned smartphone brands to emerge by mid-2027.
