England batter Joe Root surpassed Ricky Ponting’s record of 7,578 runs to become the highest Test run-scorer on home soil during the second Test against Pakistan.
Root reached the milestone on the second day at Lord's, taking his career tally in home Tests to 7,591 runs across 89 matches, compared to Ponting's 92.
The England captain now has 11,928 international runs on home soil and requires 72 more to reach the 12,000-run benchmark, a feat only five other cricketers have achieved.
