Philadelphia City Council Pushes for School Board Negotiations

Philadelphia City Council members are demanding the school board resume negotiations regarding a $3 billion facilities plan that mandates the permanent closure of 17 schools.

The board passed the plan on April 30 to address 70,000 empty seats and aging infrastructure, but the project remains $2 billion short of full funding.

Council members have threatened to use legislative tools or support potential lawsuits if the board refuses to revisit the closure list, which includes Lankenau High and Paul Robeson High.
