Prolonged unemployment and delayed recruitment continue to place economic and social pressure on educated youth and professionals in Jammu and Kashmir.
Data presented by the Ministry of Labour and Employment in the Rajya Sabha in February 2026 showed J&K recorded an unemployment rate of 6.7%, nearly double the national average of 3.5%.
Right to Information data showed that 3,40,453 unemployed youth were registered on the Jammu and Kashmir Employment Portal as of August 2026.
