IPS officer Sanjukta Parashar has been appointed as the first woman inspector general to head the Central Reserve Police Force's counter-insurgency unit, the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA).
Parashar took over the post from Danish Rana months after two CoBRA battalions were deployed to Manipur to conduct raids and recover weapons amid ongoing ethnic conflict.
CoBRA was originally raised in 2008 for jungle warfare against Left Wing Extremism, a campaign the Union government announced was met with a March 31 deadline following thousands of insurgent surrenders and casualties.
