Typhoon Dujuan wallops Japan, leaving two dead and over a million under advisories

Typhoon Dujuan brought torrential rain, flooding, and landslides near Tokyo, leaving two people dead in the Chiba and Kanagawa prefectures and prompting evacuation advisories for over a million people.

The storm packed winds of about 144 kmph on Monday before shifting northeast out to sea on Tuesday, while airlines including Japan Airlines and ANA cancelled hundreds of flights.

The Japan Meteorological Agency warned of record-breaking heavy rain exceeding September's average monthly rainfall, as authorities suspended railway services and forced early closures of events.
