Protesting students at Aligarh Muslim University blocked all four entry gates after a police raid led to the detention of an individual from a campus hostel.
The protests, which include an indefinite hunger strike by postgraduate student Yasir Fahad, began on September 21, 2026, demanding the restoration of student union elections.
AMU proctor Naved Khan stated that police acted independently to detain an outsider with dubious credentials, rejecting allegations of university involvement in disrupting the protest.
