The Union government has officially referred the controversial Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) Amendment Bill to a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) following intense opposition protests.
The decision comes after widespread criticism from minority groups and opposition parties, who alleged the bill was designed to target specific religious and non-governmental organizations.
The JPC will now scrutinize the bill's provisions, with the government seeking to build consensus before reintroducing the legislation in the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament.
