
Three-time major champion Stan Wawrinka played the final Grand Slam match of his career at the US Open, suffering a straight-set defeat against Italy's Matteo Berrettini.
The 41-year-old Swiss tennis star, who won the US Open in 2016, received a late wildcard entry to compete at the 8,000-capacity Grandstand court in Flushing Meadows.
Wawrinka, who also secured titles at the 2014 Australian Open and 2015 French Open, confirmed his retirement at the end of the 2026 season following an emotional farewell from fans.
