A Russian Kh-101 cruise missile violated Polish airspace on Thursday, causing an explosion that created a wide crater in the village of Tarnawa-Kolonia.
The incident occurred during a wider Russian barrage that killed at least eight civilians and injured over 50 people in Ukraine.
NATO responded by scrambling F-16 fighter jets and aerial refuelling aircraft, while Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk visited the impact site to assess the security breach.
