Ebola Outbreak Triggers Healthcare Crisis in DR Congo

The DR Congo's record Ebola outbreak has caused a 42 percent drop in essential health service utilization in hot spots like Bunia and Mongbwalu between April and June 2026.

As of August 11, 2026, the country has recorded 4,381 confirmed Ebola cases and 2,011 deaths, with children under five facing the highest risk of rapid disease progression and mortality.

UNICEF and local authorities have deployed 13,000 community workers to reach 2.4 million people, aiming to restore trust in medical facilities after routine measles vaccinations plummeted by up to 69 percent.
