THE BRIEF
1

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has licensed the anti-HPV therapeutic candidate SHetA2 to Emcure Pharmaceuticals to develop a non-surgical treatment for cervical intraepithelial neoplasia.

2

The small molecule therapy targets proteins including mortalin and Grp78 to disrupt the HPV-E7 oncoprotein, potentially preventing precancerous cells from developing into cancer.

3

Cervical cancer remains a major health burden in India, accounting for roughly 77,348 deaths and 123,907 new cases annually due to high-risk HPV types 16 and 18.
