Israeli President Isaac Herzog selected former IDF chief of staff Gadi Eisenkot to form the next government following the inconclusive October 27 election.
Eisenkot, leading the Yashar party, has 28 days to build a coalition after factions representing 67 lawmakers recommended him over incumbent Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The opposition bloc led by Eisenkot secured 48 seats in the 120-member Knesset, falling short of the 61-lawmaker majority required without broader coalition support.
