NIMHANS Study Links Peripheral Inflammation to Brain Damage in PSP

Researchers at NIMHANS have identified a link between peripheral immune system inflammation and neurodegeneration in Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, a rare neurological disorder.

The study, published in Frontiers in Immunology, analyzed inflammatory markers in blood and cerebrospinal fluid alongside PET-MRI imaging to establish the connection.

Lead researcher Dr. Monojit Debnath suggests these findings could lead to the development of blood-based biomarkers for more accurate diagnosis of PSP, which is often misdiagnosed as Parkinson's.
