Gujarat Health Minister Praful Panseriya confirmed 22 deaths and 35 positive cases of the Chandipura virus among children during the current monsoon season as of August 3, 2026.
Out of 184 suspected cases reported across the state, all 35 confirmed patients are under 15 years of age, with seven children currently receiving treatment in civil hospitals.
The state government has intensified vector-control measures, including pesticide spraying to eliminate sandflies, and directed hospitals to admit symptomatic children to ICUs for specialized care.
