The Indian Army launched Bharat Rice for defence forces on Monday to improve ration quality based on troop feedback.
The defence ministry signed an MoU with the Food Corporation of India to utilise its infrastructure during operational contingencies.
The rice will be milled to prescribed defence specifications and supplied through Nafed during fiscal year 2026-27.
