DMK Leader Udhayanidhi Stalin Arrested Over Misogynistic Remarks

Tamil Nadu opposition leader Udhayanidhi Stalin was arrested on August 4, 2026, following a complaint by a TVK functionary regarding alleged misogynistic remarks made at a public meeting in Thanjavur.

Police booked the DMK youth wing leader under seven sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Section 79 for insulting a woman's modesty and Section 196 for promoting enmity between groups.

Despite protests from party supporters and claims that the Madras High Court had directed police to avoid coercive action, authorities transported Stalin to Thanjavur for further legal proceedings.
