Supreme Court Orders AG and SG Oversight for BCI Policy Decisions

The Supreme Court directed the Bar Council of India (BCI) to consult the Attorney-General and Solicitor-General before making major policy decisions until fresh elections are held.

A three-judge Bench clarified that Manan Kumar Mishra serves only as a pro tem chairperson, following allegations regarding the BCI Pearl First Trust and land deals in Goa.

The court recorded an undertaking from BCI counsel that the two highest law officers will participate in policy-making processes, aiming to maintain institutional integrity until the next election.
