Former world boxing champion Zolani Tete, 38, was shot and killed in his car in Mdantsane, Eastern Cape, South Africa, while waiting for his residence gate to open on Friday.
Tete, a former WBO bantamweight and IBF junior-bantamweight titleholder, held a professional record of 29 victories, including 22 knockouts, before his career was interrupted by a four-year suspension.
A 27-year-old woman accompanying Tete in the vehicle sustained multiple gunshot wounds and is currently receiving treatment in a hospital following the ambush by two armed suspects.
