THE BRIEF

The Democratic Republic of the Congo government launched the "Congo River Without Ebola" initiative on August 20 to strengthen surveillance and prevent virus transmission along the country's primary transport artery.

The project, supported by 9 million U.S. dollars in UN funding, will deploy mobile floating laboratories and enhance isolation capacity in key hubs including Kinshasa, Mbandaka, Kisangani, and Kwamouth.

3

The first phase will last three months, focusing on early-warning networks and port monitoring to contain the current outbreak, which began on May 15 and is the country's largest on record.
