The moving Renfe train carried 397 passengers, while the stationary Iryo train was carrying 147 passengers near Urda when the collision occurred on Wednesday morning.
Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez pledged a thorough investigation, and Spain began three days of national mourning while politicians largely suspended campaigning ahead of a snap election.
