A LocalCircles survey found that 71% of consumers in Mumbai reported chemists never or rarely refused to sell medicines without a doctor's prescription.
The findings emerge as the Union Ministry proposed mandatory CCTV surveillance at medical stores and the Maharashtra FDA took action against 880 licensees.
Between June and August 2026, the state FDA suspended 677 licenses, cancelled 203, and seized illegal drugs and cosmetics worth ₹11.41 crore.
